May 16, 2014 – The University of Ottawa Public Relations Association (uOPRA) attended the 14th annual IABC Excel Awards Ceremony last night at the National Arts Centre and two projects from the year were selected as winning pieces in the student division.
The Take uOPRA to Work Day four-part podcast series in collaboration with Ottawa-based podcast duo Young PR Pros (hosts Kristine D’Arbelles and Julia Kent) took home the IABC Excel Award of Merit and the Let’s Grow Together 2014 conference won the IABC Excel Award of Excellence. The two projects aimed to connect Ottawa’s academic and professional organizations in the communications and public relations community by helping network and educate the attendees at both events.
“It’s been a great first year in operation. The uOPRA team has worked diligently in making positive things happen for our local young professionals and we are excited for these awards. We hope to share many more years of our passion with our PR community and continue building new relationships as rewarding as the one we’ve made with Young PR Pros” says Sharon Cheung, President of uOPRA.
The 2014 IABC Excel Awards gives programs such as uOPRA a chance to showcase their works to the Ottawa-Gatineau communications, marketing, and creative design community. The Excel Awards program promotes winners in a variety of ways to professionals across the National Capital Region, including publication on the IABC website, promotion to local media, as well as a media release distributed to media channels announcing the award recipients.
The award ceremony gave uOPRA members a chance to be recognized for their hard work and dedication from the year. Our incoming VP Social Pina Capuano was able to experience the panarama room full of creative professionals and says, “the event was so inspiring, IABC did a great job in recognizing the amazing people and talent in the Ottawa communications sector. I was thrilled to have been a part of the event!”
Young PR Pros is a weekly podcast for the young and young at heart PR and communications professionals looking for tips and advice on how to build and advance their careers.
